I know, I know, not the most innovative recipe ever. Everyone knows how to make bolognese, but hey, what’s the harm in sharing the family recipe that’s worked for over 20 years? It’s a warm, simple, cosy meal that’s perfect for any situation.
Ingredients:
- 400g beef mince
- 1 large onion, diced
- Carton of tomato passata
- 1 tsp garlic paste
- 1 tsp dried mixed herbs
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Prep Time – 3 minutes
Cook Time – 40 minutes
Step 1: Fry the onion and herbs
Start off by frying the onions in a pan, until golden brown.
Add the garlic, stirring regularly, before adding the herbs and salt and pepper.
Step 2: Cook the sauce and mince
Pour in the tomato passata and cook for 3-4 minutes on a low heat.
Add the mince, stirring it in the sauce, before you cover and cook it for 30 minutes. During this time you’ll want to cook the pasta of your choice, to have it hot and ready to serve with the finished bolognese.
Step 3: Add final touches, plate and serve
Towards the end of the 30 minutes, add in the splash of Worcestershire sauce and stir well. Serve while steaming hot on a bowl of spaghetti, fusilli, tagliatelle, penne, rigatoni – whichever your pasta of choice, this is a perfect accompaniment.
Optionally, but recommended for a perfect bowl of pasta, grate some of your favourite cheese, garnish with a herb like basil or parsley, and add some simple sautéed mushrooms or cherry tomatoes. Or, cook and add some kale, broccoli or spinach to improve both taste and healthiness of the meal.
And there we have it: a simple, yet delicious, quick meal for 3-4 people. You can’t go wrong with such a classic pasta meal.
